Tetrick Funeral Home: Caring For Hospice Workers

Hospice Care Workers

Elizabethton, TN. – Hospice workers have arguably one of the most emotionally difficult jobs in the healthcare industry. The job requires them to work in a high stress, demanding, and sometimes thankless environment. The staff at Tetrick Funeral Home recognized this and developed a remarkable program to address it and let know local hospice workers know just how appreciated they are.

The “Tetrick Hospice Caregiver Award” recognizes a deserving recipient each month. The award is focused on recognizing local hospice workers that go above and beyond to help care for families in their community.  At the end of the year, an awards banquet is held where the “Caregiver of the Year” is awarded to one of the 12 recipients of the monthly award.

Tetrick’s Community Relations/Outreach Coordinator is responsible for liaising between local hospice offices and the funeral home. Nomination forms are available at the local hospices, on the Tetrick website and Facebook page, and also at Tetrick Funeral Home. Families served by a hospice worker and fellow coworkers are encouraged to nominate hospice workers that truly go above and beyond to serve families.

Each month, Tetrick selects one of the nominees and surprises them at a “Stand Up” hospice meeting. The monthly recipient receives a lead crystal heart shaped paperweight with the recipient’s name engraved, a $100 MasterCard gift card, and a $60 gift certificate to a local spa.

At the end of the year, a “Hospice Caregiver of the Year” award is given out to one of the 12 monthly winners. The recipients and a guest are invited to an awards banquet. The yearly award is then drawn from a bowl to randomly award the caregiver of the year. Tetrick believes that each of the finalists is truly deserving of the prize and it would be impossible to select one over the others.

The lucky winner of the yearly award receives a 2 night stay at the DreamMore Resort in Pigeon Forge, TN (Dolly Parton’s hotel). In addition to this, they receive a $500 gift card to cover food and expenses during their stay.

The program Tetrick Funeral Home operates is nothing short of amazing. The funeral home spends thousands of dollars annually on the program, just to award hardworking people in their community.

Doctors and nurses are always recognized for the hard work they do to treat patients and help save lives.  Too often though, the jobs done by hospice workers to help care for the people that can’t be saved is overlooked.  Tetrick Funeral Home realized an opportunity to address this and begin to publicly recognize hospice workers for the exceptional work they do in their communities.
